Fast, short stroke. Bold single-pass linework.

Custom Liner Tattoo Machine

A Koller Irons custom liner is a hand-built coil tattoo machine tuned for fast, short-stroke linework. Travis Koller cuts the frame, winds the coils, and dials in the geometry to your hand and your style. Liners run a shorter stroke (typically 2.5–3.5mm) and a faster CPS so the needle hits the skin in tight, repeatable cycles — ideal for crisp single-pass lines.

What is a custom liner good for?

  • Bold traditional linework
  • Single-pass lines that hold over time
  • Round liner groupings (3RL, 5RL, 7RL, 9RL)
  • Tight outlines on neo-traditional and Japanese work

When to pick a different machine

  • Heavy color packing
  • Large-area shading and gradations
  • Single-needle fineline (a custom dialed shader is often a better fit)

FAQ

How is a Koller Irons custom liner different from an off-the-shelf liner?+
Off-the-shelf liners are tuned for an average artist with average hand pressure. A Koller Irons custom liner is tuned to your hand — your voltage range, your pressure, your geometry preference. Every coil is wound by hand and every spring set is dialed in before shipping.
What stroke length do I want for lining?+
Most liners run between 2.5 and 3.5mm. Shorter stroke (2.5mm) hits faster and is great for tight, controlled lines. Longer stroke (3.5mm) gives more punch and works better for bolder, heavier outlines. Travis will recommend based on your style — or you can spec it directly in the build wizard.
Can the same machine run different liner groupings?+
Yes. A properly tuned custom liner handles 3RL through 9RL without retuning. If you regularly run 11RL+ or want to liner-and-shade off one machine, the Combo / Workhorse build is usually a better fit.
